On Taking Chances
In the middle of the night, you see him. Right there, sitting alone with his old guitar on singing his heart out in front of the people he barely knew. Spotlight’s shining on his face, blinding those beautiful crystal clear brown eyes that he has. Those eyes that have put you under his spell.
And then you see those bright eyes stare back at your dull and empty eyes. For a moment, you felt that you’re special. He made you feel special without exerting an effort. He looked at you like you are that special. And lovely.

You wanted to talk to him. You felt the need to talk to him. You wanted to talk to him so bad. But your feet stayed glued on the ground and you can’t seem to move. You’re stuck in a moment. A moment of unfathomable curiosity. A moment in which you don’t know will last for a lifetime, if not, for just a moment. You felt that you should initiate the talking, but you didn’t. You’re too engrossed to the idea that a simple hello from you will just be a waste of time for him. You had a lot of what ifs instead of actually doing the thing that you’ve been aching to do: to get to know him.
But you did not do it. You were way too anxious and timid not knowing that on the other hand, he wanted to talk to you too. But he also felt that a simple hello from him will just be a waste of time on your part. You didn’t want to bother him, and he didn’t want to bother you either. He did not take his chances because he was too much of a coward to approach a beautiful girl like you. He was too scared to say something to you. So he did not make a move. And neither did you.
You waited for him to make a move. He waited for you, too. You two shared a moment where both of you had a certain amount of electricity that only you two can seem to comprehend. He is a complete stranger yet somehow you thought that you’ve met him a long time ago. You tried to make connections, but for some unknown reason— you just can’t seem to remember. But you knew for a fact that that connection was there. And little did you know, he’s gone.
The opportunity of meeting someone new was there. But for an inexplicable reason, you two ended up letting that special moment between the both of you pass you by. Why did you do that? What were you trying to avoid? Were you trying to save yourself from possible humiliation, the sound of his defeaning silence, you being awkward, and worse, rejected? The numerous mysteries about him kept on running through your mind. You should have stayed. You should have talked to him. You should have asked for his name. But then again, you didn’t. All you’ll ever know is that you might never see him again. He walked away without uttering a single word. Not even a hello. He didn’t even bid you goodbye. But the truth of the matter is, in the first place, there was nothing, nothing to ever say goodbye to. Except for that special moment that you shared together.
He was just a stranger. You too, were just a stranger to him. Unless you two meet again and have the courage to talk to each other. But, where is he now? What is he doing? He is nowhere to be found. You missed the chance. He is now out of your sight, you can never reach him because you barely know him. He is gone. The memory of his face will be the only thing that you will ever know about him.
A guy who could have saved you. A guy who could have changed you for a better you. A guy who could have completed your life. A guy who could have been an inspiration to you and your dreams in life. A guy who could have loved you for who you are and could have made you feel special.
A guy who could have.
